Interactive Google Slides "Community Health Resources"
Having access and knowledge of community resources is a key health skill that is beneficial to students! It's up to you how you choose to use this resource. Use it as an asynchronous self-taught lesson & assignment. OR incorporate this as an activity/assignment along side your own lesson!
 
Assignment Goal:
This is a simple, clear, and direct assignment that guides students through locating local community health resources. Students are directed to find the name, phone number, address, and distance from their home of the following health agencies:
Community Health Clinic
Voluntary Health Organization
Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Organization
Park and Recreation Program
Mental Health Services
Hospital
Students are then asked to give their community a health grade A-F, based on criteria presented.

Slide 1 - The assignment title page with instructions along the margins to help students navigate the Google Slides. Cute design that gets student's attention!
Slide 2 - Students are asked the name of their community (city, town, rural area or neighborhood).
Slide 3 - Students are instructed to do a web search to locate a Community Health Clinic near them. They are asked to type in the agency name, phone number, address, and distance from home.
Slide 4 - Students are instructed to do a web search to locate a Voluntary Health Organization near them. They are asked to type in the agency name, phone number, address, and distance from home.
Slide 5 - Students are instructed to do a web search to locate a Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Organization near them. They are asked to type in the agency name, phone number, address, and distance from home.
Slide 6 - Students are instructed to do a web search to locate a Park and Recreation Program near them. They are asked to type in the agency name, phone number, address, and distance from home.
Slide 7 - Students are instructed to do a web search to locate a Mental Health Service near them. They are asked to type in the agency name, phone number, address, and distance from home.
Slide 8 - Students are instructed to do a web search to locate a hospital near them. They are asked to type in the agency name, phone number, address, and distance from home.
Slide 9 - Students are instructed to give their community a health grade (A-F) based on how many and how close health communities are to them by moving the interactive circle over their score.
 
* Note - Assignment can be shared as a "force copy". This will allow students to have their own copy. Simply edit the URL on your copy by replacing the word "edit" with "copy". Open the new URL with the word "copy", and share that link with students.
 
*Assignment can also be downloaded as a PPT to share with students who do not have Google account access.
