Interactive Google Slides "Earth Day - Environmental Health"

I have created this wonderful interactive informative activity that students can easily navigate! Slides are "GEN-Z" approved! Cute and with the times. It's up to you! Use this resource as an asynchronous self-taught lesson/assignment. OR incorporate this as an activity/assignment along side your lesson!

 

Assignment Goal:

This is a simple, clear, and direct assignment that aims to inform students about Earth Day and it's relationship to Environmental Health. Students are instructed to navigate through various slides to achieve the following lesson objectives:

  • Define Earth Day
  • Describe the relationship between Earth Day and Environmental Health.
  • Identify global environmental issues.
  • Analyze how environmental pollutants, affect health.
  • Identify government agencies that promote health and protect the environment.
  • Design a plan to minimize environmental pollutants, at home and in the community.

What's Included

A total of 8 slides, 4 embedded videos, multiple embedded articles, graphics, and resources! The Canva template that the slides were created on is also linked if you would like to make personalized edits.

 

  • Slide 1 - The assignment title page with instructions along the margins to help students navigate the Google Slides. Cute design that gets student's attention!
  • Slide 2 - Assignment objectives - Listed above.
  • Slide 3 - Students are prompted to watch a video about Earth Day (8min), then they are instructed to respond to the corresponding question.
  • Slide 4 - Students are instructed to read the article "What is Earth Day and Why do we Celebrate it?" They are then asked to review the definition of Environmental Health and describe the relationship between Earth Day and Environmental Health.
  • Slide 5 - Students are prompted to learn more about deforestation, global warming, air pollution, and ocean pollution by watching short, informative YouTube videos. Students are asked to select one issue that they most care about and explain why.
  • Slide 6 - Students are prompted to review a graphic that illustrates the 5 main types of environmental pollutants. They are asked to identify the risks of each one.
  • Slide 7 - Students are instructed to review government agencies that are responsible for the environment and sustainability. They are asked to list 3 and describe the focus of each.
  • Slide 8 - Students are asked to develop a plan on how they can limit pollutions and be more environmentally friendly.

 

* Note - Assignment can be shared as a "force copy". This will allow students to have their own copy. Simply edit the URL on your copy by replacing the word "edit" with "copy". Open the new URL with the word "copy", and share that link with students.

 

*Assignment can also be downloaded as a PPT to share with students who do not have Google account access.
