Lesson 1: Wellness and Food Decisions in Today’s Setting (24 Slides)
- The first lesson Slides (slides 1-8) in this unit begins with a brief introduction to the course, getting to know the teacher and getting to know the students' slides. This Slide deck also includes an introduction of the Nutrition and Wellness Research Paper that students will be working on over the course of the first 3 units.
- The main lesson begins on slide 9. Students will learn about wellness and the 7 dimensions of wellness (physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational, environmental).
- In the “notes” section of the Slides there are some talking points, guides, and ideas, and essential questions for the teacher.
- Slide 18 includes a Think, Pair, Share activity.
- Students are introduced to the 6 basic nutrients for energy and growth.
- Next Steps Slide includes instructions for what students should complete next.

Lesson 1: Assignments
- 1.01 Unit Introduction Notes
- Notes directly correspond with the Unit 1 Lesson 1 Info Document
- Students are asked to fill in the blank, define the 7 Dimensions of Wellness, answer 3 questions that pertain to the reading, and list the 6 basic nutrients.
- 1.01B My 7 Dimensions of Wellness
- This assignment is directly related to lesson 1.
- Assignment Goal: Students are asked to illustrate examples of each dimension of wellness within their lives. They will create a visual representation of each area of wellness and provide 1-2 examples of how they incorporate them in their day-to-day activities.
- Assignment Submission: Students are encouraged to get creative! They are informed that they may submit a poster, collage, slides/ppt deck, comic strip, video production, drawing, graphic organizer, or digital art creation.
- Assignment Grade: Students are informed that their submission must include definitions, examples, and visual representations of each dimension of wellness. The assignment is designed to be worth 35 points. Submission must demonstrate neatness, effort, and creativity.
